About VTE

  • The Burden of VTE Despite an incidence that exceeds 1 - 2 per 1,000 and data suggesting that VTE is the third most prevalent cardiovascular disease, the true burden posed by VTE is typically underestimated. There has been a tendency to both under-recognise the condition and underestimate its clinical and health-economic impact.
  • VTE and co-morbidities

To successfully evaluate a patient’s risk of VTE requires an appreciation of patient characteristics, disease characteristics and co-morbidities, and inherent risks.

  • Improving VTE Management The prevention of VTE is important in order to avoid the morbid and potentially lethal effects of DVT and PE, as well as to reduce the future risk of recurrent VTE, the chronic health and cost burden of PTS, and the risks of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Optimal treatment also reduces complications.
