The Coalition to Prevent VTE
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
About the Coalition The Coalition to Prevent VTE is a non-profit organization with charitable status, composed of a multidisciplinary group of European experts whose objectives are: to raise awareness of VTE, to promote educational programmes and healthcare initiatives about VTE, and to improve the management, including prevention and treatment of VTE, thereby reducing the incidence of the disease.
The Coalition to Prevent VTE, based in London, UK, was founded towards the end of 2006 by Dr Alexander (Ander) Cohen, of the Department of Haematology, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London.
The Coalition’s Core Group is composed of 16 physicians and surgeons representing the various sub-specialities that encounter patients both at risk of VTE and for VTE management. They met for the first time early in 2007 to discuss and set the main objectives of the Coalition. They are all active members or representatives of diverse European scientific and medical societies.
Because the Coalition to Prevent VTE is a non-profit organization with charitable status, the Coalition Core Group governance is overseen by an independent Trustee Board.
